Discover Iceland

Few places on Earth captivate Rent a Car in Iceland quite like Iceland. From lunar-looking landscapes to bubbling geysers and gargantuan glaciers, this mystical land is one that can be hard to grasp until you visit it. But once you do, you’ll likely want to return time and again.

It’s unclear exactly when the first humans settled on this remote island in the North Atlantic, but it’s well known that it happened long after coastal and other limited ocean voyages had been mastered. And although weathering over thousands of years could have covered any relics, there are several written sources that shed light on the discovery and initial settlement. The most notable among them is ’The Book of Settlements’, which dates from the late 9th century (874 A.D.).

Iceland Unveiled: A Journey to Discover the Land of Fire and Ice

During this 8-day adventure, you’ll drive the Ring Road while taking in some of the country’s most can’t-miss natural wonders. Get up close to a shimmering glacier and witness the power of thunderous waterfalls. You’ll also enjoy Reykjavik’s quaint streets and charming cafes, as well as head to sea in search of whales and soak in thermal baths.

While you’re here, be sure to make some room for traditional local cuisine. Seafood is a staple here, as well as free-range lamb. And, of course, don’t forget to try some of those more niche Icelandic delicacies such as salted, pickled and smoked fish (pylsa). You might not know it, but this is one of the most fascinating natural art forms in existence. And you can only experience them during the winter, when Vatnajokull National Park comes alive with ice caves.
